Filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have a magic touch that turns potentially awful ideas into surprisingly awesome ones. Just look at the duo’s recent work: Adapt the kids’ book “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,” reboot “21 Jump Street,” build a movie out of Legos.

Based on premises alone, any of those films could have bombed. Instead, they were all critical and commercial hits that netted sequels.

Last night at the 87th Academy Awards, MTV’s Josh Horowitz spoke with film composer Hans Zimmer (“Interstellar”) about his upcoming film, Batman v Superman.

Zimmer started off by saying that the score hasn’t been written yet, but he has got a couple ideas for what he’ll do with it. Then Josh asked him if he needed to create Aquaman and Wonder Woman’s themes in Batman v Superman? “I’m trying,” Zimmer revealed. “Put it that way. We’re in early days. But yes, of course, ideally that is what you want to do.”

Zimmer was then asked if he knew which other films in the new DC cinematic universe he might be scoring. “No, not at all,” Zimmer replied. “Because the studio is going to hedge its bets if I ruin this one.”

Citizenfour has won the Oscar for best documentary, for its director Laura Poitras, editor Mathilde Bonnefoy and producer Dirk Wilutzky.

Collecting the award, Poitras, flanked by journalist and collaborator Glenn Greenwald, said: “The disclosures of Edward Snowden don’t only expose a threat to our privacy but to our democracy itself. When the decisions that rule us are taken in secret we lose the power to control and govern ourselves.” Poitras thanked Edward Snowden for his “sacrifices”, and added: “I share this award with Glenn Greenwald and the many other journalists who are taking risks to expose the truth.”
