It wasn’t something any of the Muskegon firefighters were anxious to do when their boss asked them to rescue a huge python from a burning Muskegon home Sunday evening, March 30.

But Firefighter Scott Hemmelsbach, who had experience handling the reptiles, reluctantly agreed to go into the two-story, smoke-filled house on Catherine Street and rescue the 6-foot python from its terrarium.

A professor at Lonestar College in Texas was supposed to teach an Introduction to Chemistry course, a requirement-level science class, to a bunch of undergrads.

Student Lauren Firmin is an over-achieving straight 4.0 student who took the class and was shocked to find herself quickly failing. “I was getting 40’s on every test,” Firmin told a local news outlet. “I studied as hard as I could, did everything in my power to try.” Still, right before the final she was scoring an F—the only class in which she wasn’t getting a perfect score.

A University of Virginia student is seeking $40 million from the state and seven Alcoholic Beverage Control agents who arrested her believing she had illegally purchased beer when she had bought bottled water.

Elizabeth K. Daly, 21, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Richmond Circuit Court, according to media reports. She alleges malicious prosecution, six counts of assault and battery and failure to appropriately train ABC agents.
